That has a lot to do with President Biden and his administration doing absolutely nothing with Manchin and Sinema routing everything his administration and the Democrats have attempted to progress, and the disgustingly weak and frightened Democrats who have allowed McConnell to remain in power and control of the Senate.
Actually, I don’t find Biden’s “approval rating” all that bad, considering.
Technically, the only people who’s opinion counts in ANY approval rating would be the people who actually voted for him in the last election – those who didn’t have already expressed their opinion of the whole Biden question. (Although it can be argued that they could have changed their minds – God knows, those poor Arizonians who thought they were electing a “democrat” when they elected Sinema have a right to regret their choice!)
And, besides, the American presidency is not a “popularity” contest, so asking ANYONE if they “approve” of the president’s actions is somewhat ‘disingenuous’, isn’t it? It would be much better if voters (yes, only those who voted in the last election should be queried) were asked if they approved of his administration’s actions and accomplishments – after they were enumerated.
Just asking such an open-ended question as “Do you approve of Biden?” with no predication involved is stupid – I might disapprove of Biden because of the way he parts his hair, or because he’s old or any number of other non-germane reasons, so until you know WHY people approve or disapprove of Biden, the rating is meaningless – though it DOES allow us to apply our own reasons to “overlay” someone else’s opinion, i.e. YOU don’t approve of Biden; I don’t approve of Biden because of his hair part, therefore you, too, disapprove of his hair part!
It’s easy to pile on Joe Biden as ineffectual when the dark reality is that the 50-year GOP campaign to sabotage democracy, discourse, compromise and progress in the name of oligarchy is paying infinite dividends to the nation’s greediest billionaires who can’t stand taxes or the cost of a decent civilization. The real blame for American devolution resides in its radical right-wing dollarcracy, carefully designed over decades to destroy any chance for American democracy.
