“ready in 25 minutes” … That caused me to stop and think … Yes, TV dinners were once in aluminum trays and needed to be cooked in the oven. 25 minutes was probably about right. Now we have “frozen meals” to pop in the microwave for 3 or 4 minutes, so no more metal trays.
Wow! I can remember those early TV dinners. The most common? (Or so it seemed): Salisbury steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and apple cobbler. In fact, I think every meal tasted the same no matter what the entree…
I still like tv dinners and pot pies. When my dad was away on maneuvers for the army and my mom was working full time and going to classes, she would allow us to have TV dinners. We considered it a special treat because we knew we were going to be allowed to watch TV!!!

Red, not the same if it isn’t in little compartments. Peas are a must, as is a little brownie or cobbler.

I remember as a kid thinking those TV dinners were just the greatest thing. What an insult to my mom’s cooking. And she was a great cook!

The 50s play on the radio at work, and there’s occasional snippets of relevant trivia or a sound sample from the era. For example:
50s housewife, worriedly: Oh, dear. Your father will be home soon, and I haven’t had time to prepare dinner!
Little boy: But Mom, we could have tv dinner!
50s housewife: My word, you’re right! That certainly does save on time!
