Minimum wage should be at least double what it is now. Not to mention all those highly skilled jobs that don’t pay a living wage either.

Perfect cartoon to illustrate the never ending battle between the proletariats and the bourgeoisie! This past year the US senate could only get about 40 votes to support a $15/hour minimum wage which is not even close to a living wage in most parts of our nation. Members of both big parties (as well as a guy named Angus from Maine) united to strike this down to defend the conglomerates and other 1%er entities which got them into office. Wuerker knocked it out of the park!

All of this is point on, BUT, he’s missed one element: the Upper Lower and Middle Classes. THEY get squeezed by increases in Minimum Wage with the erosion of the worth of THEIR wages, NOT the fat cats. A better solution would be to work on JP Morgan’s formula. He didn’t trust a company in which the highest paid person made more than 20 times what the lowest paid person did. So, a company using a $15/hour minimum wage would cap out compensation at the opposite extreme at $390k/year. Of course, one can’t FORCE that on companies in the US, BUT, a significant tax penalty COULD be assessed to those people raking in excessive salaries…

The current Federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour is the lowest amount a non-exempt employee in any state in the the United States can legally be paid for hourly work. Special minimum wage rates, such as the “Federal waitress minimum wage” for tipped employees, may apply to certain workers.

The Federal Register notice also states that, beginning Jan. 1, 2022, employers must pay tipped employees performing work on or in connection with covered contracts a minimum cash wage of $7.90 per hour.

Overall food prices rose 0.4 percent from March, and are up 1 percent from a year ago, according to data released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis on Friday. The price of pork soared 2.6 percent in the month of April and 4.8 percent from a year ago, adjusting for seasonality. And while beef and veal prices stayed fairly flat for the month, they are up 3.3 percent from a year ago.

The billionaires and millionaire crying for everyone to return to work have only one reason for doing so. They don’t make their money. You do.

In Oklahoma, between FAFSA and the tuition assistance bill that Oklahoma’s last Democrat governor and the Democrat congress passed, many High School graduates can go to college for the full 4 years and graduate with a degree. I know many who have done this and are now in good jobs. Without these programs, most of these people would have been stuck in low paying jobs.

One the one hand doubling the minimum wage nationwide would be a good move, on the other, locally Taco Bell is paying that to start, ditto just about every fast-food place in the area.
