There used to be a long, boring gap between New Year’s Day and Easter, but fortunately Martin Luther King Day came along to help break it up. Thanks for yet one more contribution to society, Dr. King!
That’s why until you are an adult and have children of your own, you think of the gap between X’mas and New Year’s as boring. But when you get to be in charge of the celebrations, the gap is more of an oasis where you catch your breath. With food prep, gift buying for people who have everything they need, “special” relatives and now Covid… Happy New Year everyone!
For my best girl and I, there’s an example of a rarely heard term and a celebration
The term = Serendipity. On an August day in 1962, beautiful blue eyes met stunned brown eyes and their two orbits began a mutual attraction. A very happy coincidence.
Celebration: On this date in that same year, those two orbits melded into one.
The blue eyes are still bright and beautiful and the brown eyes are still stunned.
Time and age have had little effect, only minor wear and tear. We are thankful every day for that.
So, happy anniversary blue eyes. Gonna go for 60 starting today.
Actually, between from Christmas to New Year’s is the Octave of Christmas. The whole thing is Christmas. Or maybe to January 6, or the Sunday following.
Say what? Christmas is definitely a “storm” (especially for introverts like myself!) but New Year’s isn’t! New Year’s social shenanigans are VOLUNTARY.

Sure, you can see it as: calms between storms, but it could also be seen as: valleys between mountain peaks or breaks between celebrations.
