When my kids were still at home we had to have an artificial tree because my son was allergic to something on the live trees. Asthma attack EVERY Christmas until we figured that one out.
My maternal grandfather would fill gaps by the simple expedient of drilling a hole at the gap and inserting another branch in the hole. I guess they put them up closer to Christmas in his time so drying out was less of an issue.
With Stone family including Wally, may take a while. For hubby and I we bought a fiber optic tree about 10 years ago, replaced our other artificial tree.

The perfect Christmas tree:- green — has needles — at least one family member can reach the top. All else is just details.

This late in the game you’ll have your choice of the three sad leftovers in the far side of the lot. Cheap, but sincere.
