The media stands to gain a lot more revenue if they talk about things in extremes.
While it may reflect reality to talk about the elections as being ordinary and predictable, the media, and subsequently the consumers thereof, are not interested in reality.
I’m with Ted: people are freaking out over a “meh, vanilla, centrist establishment” Democrat who debated poorly barely lost in a race where it is traditionally acknowledged the party in power in DC has trouble winning. New Jersey’s governor held his seat, bucking tradition but no one is giving that much news.
A lot of the nimrods in the national media are blaming the progressives, that is total BS, they are just trying to cover for a weak candidate that their establishment and centrist media outlets like CNN built up to be a litmus test when it really was not. This race was so much like the Clinton campaign. The DNC lost the election more than the repubbas won it. Thus the establishment has to blame someone and some have decided to put a target on the only people who truly want good and necessary change for our society and the whole planet: the Progressive Movement.
Darrin Bell had something to say about this and I agree:
Anyhow, what happens next, the DNC panics and their leadership force the progressives in the house to give up their one bargaining chip to getting a better BBB bill on the table by voting through the smaller infrastructure bill. Yeah they got the promise of some moderates in the house to consider voting yes on the BBB. However as long as the senate holds it up, those alleged promises from the blue dog Dinos means little. I think the squad did the right thing by bucking Pelosi on the vote although only 6 had the stones to do it.
Democrats have allowed the Republican/conservatives to steal the narrative and then define that narrative and define Democrats through fear peddling and lying. Democrats must fight back or there will be huge shifts on a single vote. I’ve often referred to the 1995 Movie ‘American President’, 25 years ago and still current because conservatives oppose this Nation’s Founding principles, and have since 1774. Sorkin wrote some very true and honest words. The president’s (Michael Douglas) speech at the end is what this Nation is supposed to be.
"We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, Bob Rumson (substitute Republican/conservatives) is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who’s to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle-aged, middle-class, middle-income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family and American values and character.
The latest being CRT, WOKE, defund police, politically correct, and on and on.
"America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, ‘cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say "You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can’t just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the “land of the free”.
The guy who ran Hillary’s “ground game” in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan also ran the campaign in Virginia’s governor race for McAuliffe. The lesson should be learned that people who fail that spectacularly should never get to run another campaign again, but instead the only thing Democrats will “learn” is that they went too far Left, somehow. Again.
Now the question is, what will these politicians and political scientists / “professionals” do next? Will they just run around in circles, trying to cover up unpopular stances with whitewash (like facebook renaming itself without revamping itself), or will they make a real attempt to reconnect with the voters on issues and proposed solutions? Unfortunately, I suspect they’ll do mostly the former and very little of the latter…
And I would add…as I must, time after time…these were not the only games in anyone’s town. A very few pubs noticed that downticket races around the country brought increases from women, Black and Latinx participants. Much to the chagrin of Establishment Dems and the racist crowd now fully in charge of what used to be the Republican Party. Neither of whom accomplished much at the grassroots level.
I agree Ted, even though we come at things from opposite sides we all have a common enemy. The Media is the Devil who shakes our cage then stand back and narrate the fight. When all of Us stop taking the bait things could change, doubtful sadly.
I actually agree with Ted. The media, ever since Youngkin’s electoral victory in VA, has been saying that the Democrats in general (and progressive Democrats in particular) are toast in next year’s midterms. The Democrats managed to hang on the the Governorship in NJ. Plus Progressive Democrats won the Mayor’s races in Boston MA (it’s first female and first person of color to be mayor). In Cincinnati OH (a heavily Republican city with a long history of racial strife) a Progressive Democrat became that city’s first Pacific Islander American Mayor. And another Progressive Democrat became Pittsburgh PA’s first African American Mayor. But, of course that doesn’t generate nearly as many clicks as “The Democrats are toast in next year’s midterms”. As for the Infrastructure bill, that bill needed to be passed so that they can start doing something. Hopefully, next year the Democrats will be spending the next year cutting ribbons and going on the Sunday Morning talk shows (not to mention GMA and Today) talking up how they are moving forward. But there is still time for the midterms for the Dems/Progressives to win the midterms. But they need to stop showing up at the gunfight with a peashooter. As Will Rogers said, “Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll only get run over if you just sit there”.

SOME people aren’t quite so gullible. Alas, we know for sure that something above 30% ARE this gullible. To them I have this to say:
If you say the word “gullible” r-e-a-l-l-y slow it sounds like “Let’s go, Brandon!”;
