    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Bonhomme_Richard_(LHD-6)

This also provides some information as to the fire (arson – and burned for four days!, injuring many, and was made worse by existing conditions) and subsequent reports on just how badly things were handled before and during the emergency. The links to information and reports are important but only the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended).

The Navy didn’t used to be this way. Being “shipshape” meant something.

There is always waste when the sheer size of a military [naval] force is seen as more important than expertise, competency, and agility.

Guess they’ll have to rename the ship: “USS Bonhomme Firebug”.

There was also a fire on a submarine at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine a few years ago. Also found to be caused by arson. Very difficult to extinguish. Community was traumatized, PNSY is a MAJOR employer in Maine and New Hampshire, even many workers commute from Massachusetts. Two of my sons, a stepson and a stepdaughter work there.Warning signs of disgruntlement, anger, threats, and just plain “something’s not right” need to be heeded. Same as with mass shooters, if we sense something is dangerously wrong about a persons behavior, we need to speak up. Too bad mental health care is not a priority in our country. So much suffering could be avoided.

If you look at these comments with some of the reasons for the ’Great Resignation" and many labor strikes being management not treating employees like human beings.

It’s time to bring back the standards to join the military up. When I was in the military anyone belonging to extremist groups, including white nationalism ties were not allowed in. Does that mean no one in the military shared their backwards views. Of course not, but it did ensure they were not active in any group with a mission to destroy democracy. Most, at least active duty, got over a lot of their issues, as when you get to know people it gets a lot harder to hate them.

When I was in the US Navy and stationed at FOCCPac (1966-1968) I was sent to fire fighting school at Pearl Harbor since I was at a secure facility and we had to take turns on the fire brigade. For the fire to have taken three days to extinguish, the arsonist must have worked very hard at setting it up.

The fire was a bit over a year ago, why did Breen bring it up now?

This seems to provide the best motive. In addition to being an unstable psychopath.

I suppose it is too much to expect a left wing loon to blame the man who deliberately set the fire.

The ship’s command and few sailors aboard the boat should be sentence to a long time in the brig.
