Is it supposed to be a bad thing that people can’t fly Southwest airlines?

“I don’t know why they quit. $5 an hour is plenty.”

Seems likely. Also seems like the logistics crew was badly impacted. Planes not available? Crews in the wrong place? Keeping all that stuff organized is a huge problem, but there IS software for that.

Interesting the initial comments refuse to acknowledge the “vaccine mandate.” At $150-250K per year, they were not walking out on the wage issue. (sorry RAGs)

Not exactly the truth, except in the Alternate universe..

    https://slate.com/business/2021/10/southwest-airlines-cancelations-why-it-happened.html

“According to Southwest, weather and air traffic control snafus began grounding a number of flights on Friday. (The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a staffing shortfall at an air traffic control center, weather, and military training exercises did cause cancellations and delays, but only for a few hours.) That initial wave of cancellations, Southwest said, discombobulated their whole system by preventing aircrafts and crews from being in the right places at the right times according to schedule. There was then a cascading effect in which other flights also had to be canceled because of these labor and airplane issues piling up. Southwest is also still trying to ramp up operations again after it made cutbacks during the height of the pandemic, which also affected its ability to absorb the initial shock of nixed flights.”

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/12/southwest-airlines-reduces-cancellations-after-mass-cancellations-from-staffing-shortage.html

But then, Southwest isn’t what one could call a premier airline, cutting redundancies, margins, and buffers in order to maximize profits.

It’s funny how faux free market economists revel in supply/demand pricing models until it’s labor that’s in short supply.

Predictably, Fox’s Tucker Carlson is lying about the Southwest situation.

But for the record, the president of the Southwest Pilots Union was actually on Fox News and told them that “It’s absolutely false that our pilots are engaged in any sort of job action.”

So true. SWA is, and should be, better than this. Never heard such nonsense from Herb!

If everyone just went on strike for a week, the government would have to let up their abominable and completely illegal mandates. Power belongs to WE the people, not the elected goons in government.
