I used to sit on the stand between the two mailboxes waiting for the mailman to come and hand me the mail and visit with me for awhile. I loved it when I was house sitting for the summer for a couple neighbors’ houses and I could do it for two more boxes down the road. I wished I could ride in the mailtruck and help him out on his rounds. Our mailman (can’t remember his name) loved his job and he made his job sound so exciting when I was a kid.

I’d love to have a benie propeller hat for some of the people at the senior residence I volunteer at. They would love it :-) And yes, I can really picture them with their walkers (or the one older guy in his wheelchair who loves to pinch bumms…)

Let’s see if we can understand what 6 weeks means to Calvin. Make it proportional to the length of his live vs. ours.

6 weeks to a 6 year old is = to a year for a 52 year old. But a 6 year old probably can’t remember his first 2 years. So it’s more like 18 months to a 52 year old.

But expectations are greater, mail is scarce, and focus on desirable things are more intense for a 6 year old + his ability to achieve instant gratification is much less than for an adult.

So 6 weeks to a 6 year old is about = to 3 years for an adult.

(“Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy.”) Maybe sponsored by Buster Brown (“that’s my dog Tyge, he lives in a shoe, I’m Buster Brown, Look for me in there, too!”) Too bad there’s no entertainment like it today for kids… we learned how to LISTEN.

I think a lot of companies say 6 weeks since they’d rather get it to you early than late. Also, if you don’t receive something by the promised date, they must offer a refund if you don’t want to wait. So, they often make it a long time.

It WAS there! All you had to do was continue reading past the point you liked. Poor Calvin! Now he has to endure the wait for the postman. He’ll probably lose interest at week 2, and when the beanie does arrive, he’ll be waiting for something else.

As noted, Quisp IS being manufactured - you can get it online and in select markets.

The thought of ordering some is tempting. I’d welcome Quake back via the same outlets, were it available. I never did understand why it was canceled.

I had to wait for my first ham license six weeks also. Although I was 18 at the time, it seemed like forever. At this time I have had my license for over 47 years and still enjoy the hobby, maybe even more now. Now you can get on the air within a week of passing test. Like Calvin, I also waited for a few things when I was his age. I lived in Tucson in the early 50’s and no TV so listened to all kinds of shows on the radio. Great stuff.
