And what’s-his-name, who was running for California governor, said that there was no racism in this country. Makes you wonder—what kind of alternate reality do Republicans live in anyway?
While I agree that reporting of disappearances is strongly affected by race, I believe that there’s a second — and even more significant — factor in the coverage of Gabby Petito… the fact that she was an internet sensation.
She was getting significant media attention even before she disappeared, and it was initially her disappearance from her media platform that disturbed the media far more than the fact that she was “white”, or even a “pretty” white girl.
The fact is that many white girls disappear without any mention in major — maybe not even “minor” — media. But you can bet that if Kanye West — who is both black and male — suddenly disappeared, it would not be ignored by any of the major media.
I’m definitely not saying that “race” doesn’t affect media coverage, but there are other prejudices which also deserve attention.
And there’s one more thing that seems to be getting too little attention: the fact that violent interactions are regularly not treated as criminal by law enforcement (or others), if they can be labeled as “domestic disputes”.

Spot on. Its like the MSM has an affliction that causes them to latch on to a white girl in trouble story 2-3 times per year.
How many missing person cases go unnoticed each week? Hundreds? Actually, THOUSANDS. More than 500,000 missing person cases filed in 2020.
