If some of the money I pay in taxes, goes to someone down or their luck, so be it. I don’t cry like a spoiled brat about paying taxes. Taxes are what we pay for a civilized society. The republican/conservative/libertarians think that everything should be privatized. All that will get you is anarchy.

Clearly we need free education, otherwise people are susceptible to believing the TV when they’re told to take horse dewormer instead of a free vaccine. It’s also kind of a requirement now for any decent job.
what do you have against free childcare for parents? Parents who have childcare are able to work. Work pays them money. Money means they no longer need to use social safety nets.
If you want to require photo I.D. to vote, then make getting one free, easy, and convenient to get. Allow people to get one at libraries, post offices, banks, grocery stores, or even have people able to come to them for older Americans and people with no means of transportation, instead of having to go to DMVs only open during weekdays from 8am-4pm when most people are at work.
It’s not “free stuff,” it’s things our tax dollars could pay for.
For those that say the private sector should be running things, I say “Did the private sector put men on the Moon? Did the private sector build the interstate highway system? Did the private sector defeat the Axis powers in WW2, or Polio in the ’50s and 60s?”. All that happened when the wealthy paid their fair share in taxes. It could happen again. I just hope and pray that saner head prevail in Congress and they can avoid a government shutdown and/or debt default at the end of this month. Doesn’t the GOP realize that during the last few prolonged shutdowns (1995-96 under Clinton and the GOP controlling both houses of Congress, 2010 under Obama with the GOP controlling both houses of Congress and 2018-19 under Trump with the GOP controlling the Senate and the Democrats controlling the House) the GOP took the brunt of public blame from the financial headaches that ensued? And a debt default would spell utter disaster! Surely the GOP can’t be that crazy, can they?
It’s not free. There is no free. It’s a question of priorities. Conservatives would rather not see others succeed because they see the world as a zero-sum game.
