Thanks Joe, for getting us out of Afghanistan. We left the Afghan “army” with enough fire power to hold off the Taliban on their own. Afghanistan is not our problem. Wasn’t 20 years ago, 10 years ago or now. Let them figure out on their own what kind of country they want.
I feel for the women and children in Afghanistan, but are we to occupy every country that fails in human rights?
George W. Bush should never have occupied Afghanistan. After doing so and finding Osama Bin Laden had fled the country, should have left long before 2003 was over. He certainly should not have invaded Iraq, which was a stable and secular country at the time.
Much as I hope for a better future for Afghan women, it’s not for us to decide. If after 20 years of education for women and men and training and supplying the Afghan Army, this was the result immediately after leaving Afghanistan. There really wasn’t much more we could do. Staying indefinitely, should never had been required. The Afghan people have largely failed themselves.
Amazing that we have such concern for Afghan women, now that we’re officially out of Afghanistan. Perhaps the media will lead us into ANOTHER ill-advised, 20+ year occupation of the country…..

Um, at this point, shouldn’t the Afghan men be responsible for fighting to ensure the rights of Afghan women?

Our biggest mistake in Afghanistan (and Iraq, too) was in not arming and training all the Women to fight.
They’d have the Taliban Gone by next week.

and then there is Texas. Sigh:
Texas: Where a virus has reproductive rights but women do not.
Texas: Where women are livestock.
