There needs to be a “rethinking” on our laws governing “Assault and Battery”.
Let me explain.
Currently, someone can be charged with “Assault” if that person THREATENS another person with physical harm and “Battery” when the threat if and when that threat is carried out.
Here is the “rub”, however.
Telling or texting or otherwise communicating a threat of physical violence is hardly EVER treated with the same expediency and urgency as an actual attack – and in my opinion, it should. It IS AN ATTACK – just as swinging a bat at the body would be.
If I tell or otherwise indicate that I am going to “kill” someone, I should be treated as someone who actually attempted the crime – at THE VERY LEAST there should be very real and actionable consequences for that threat – it SHOULDN’T just be ignored!
Americans need to understand that a THREAT of physical violence is damaging, just as much as an actual physical attack would be – mentally if not physically.
And, lastly, I believe that anyone should be allowed to post anything they want, anywhere they want – but it should never be allowed to be posted “anonymously” – there should always be a traceable ‘footprint’ for authorities to follow – and, yes, I know all about the whining about first amendment rights, but I have NEVER SAID OR POSTED anything I wouldn’t say to that person’s face and I see NO REASON to allow anyone to be able to anonymously post, “I’m going to rape your wife and gut your kids.” as one local official recently received with no idea as to the poster.
It’s insane how the people buying fake vaccination cards are literally the same people who complain about undocumented immigrants using fake documents, no?
