Ear buds won’t stay in my ears; they’re uncomfortable as are headphones, and the music quality is lousy for both. I only only listen to music through good speakers. But I am a fan of ear buds, air pods, etc. on others because it spares me their racket. A week or so ago I was in my car, windows closed, listening to my music at a stoplight when some teens pulled up next to me. They had their music up so loud I couldn’t hear mine (which was pretty loud) even though they also had their windows closed. What harm they must have been doing to their eardrums.
When I’d be in the office for hearing aid visits with my mom, we could hear the music in cars going by sometimes. The audio doctor would say, “Oh goodie, future customers”.
I kind of miss all the radios on the beach, when I was a kid you could walk down the beach from Ortley Beach to Seaside Heights NJ and never miss a song, almost everyone would have WABC on and it worked like a soundtrack.
I was once on a long plane flight and the child behind me screamed for almost 2 hours non-stop. The teenager in the seat in front of me had earphones and I offered to buy them (he declined)
My gym has an insipid music feed from the ceiling speakers spewing what is considered today’s music. I hate it. When I ask them to turn it down, they always say incredulously, “You don’t like it?” as if I’d asked them to cut off my hand. I’ve found a corner of the large room where yoga and pilates classes are held and do as much of my workout there as I can. When there is no class going on there’s no music.
