Gee Lisa, if the majority had followed the mask and social distancing guidelines and also had gotten the vaccine as soon as it was available, we might not have had the variants that are now springing up. Oh, wait, herd immunity was supposed to fix everything.

How utterly predictable. How utterly, pathetically predictable.

The conservative media (all of whom got vaccinated themselves) discover there is a ton of money in peddling false, anti-science Qonspiracy theories (kind of like religion), turn a medical issue into a political football, tell their gullible, stupid suckers that the vaccines (which they inappropriately credit Trump for developing) are a hoax (though Trump [secretly] got his), and profit off the deaths of their Qool-Aid drinking Qult worshippers.

And because these anti-science gullible scam victims are too stupid to protect themselves, they also spread a deadly virus to others, INCLUDING INNOCENT CHILDREN who are too young to get vaccinated (so much for that “pro-life” lie), cause a new wave of an even more transmissible variant of the virus, and the ones who whine the most about masks are the ones who are forcing the return of mandates and possibly shutdowns. These crybabies whine most loudly, but they are the ones causing that which they dislike so much.

All of this is completely preventable, but stupidity snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

I’m going to let other people’s words speak for me here:

BREAKING: @CBSNews confirms the CDC will announce this afternoon that fully vaccinated Americans should return to wearing masks in indoor public settings due to the spread of the #DeltaVariant #ugh

    - Ben Tracy (@benstracy)

Nothing like moving backwards. Congrats to all that helped make this possible.

    - Louis Riddick (@LRiddickESPN)

And the irony is the unvaccinated will be the first one complaining about masks being back. Clown show

(shrug). Why are masks so much of a stumbling block for covidiots? Much less vaccines. People have been wearing masks for OTHER perfectly good reasons since the first caveman discovered that a mask allowed you to get a little closer to the fire. And nobody complains about THOSE masks.

It’s just the way it is. Mask up or Zoom it.

Any study of history let alone epidemiology would have clued a reasonable person that the pandemic would recede successively, not immediately.

Wearing a mask is a lot easier than having a plastic tube going into your mouth, down your throat and into your windpipe (trachea). You can’t talk, because air doesn’t pass across your vocal cords. Your hands are tied because you are sedated and might try to pull out your tube. You can’t urinate, even though you feel like you have to, because there is a tube in your urethra. And you can only hope you can reach the call button if you need to do more. When you cough alarms sound and you hope the nurse is not too busy helping someone else to help you. When she does arrive (my apologies to our male nurses), she passes another plastic tube into your breathing tube to suction out the mucus. This makes you feel more short of breath until she’s done. Then things (hopefully) calm down, until you go through it all again until you get better or die.Why would anybody want to risk this for themselves or their loved ones?

It’s only a 23-gram mask. It’s not a ball-and-chain; it’s not shackles; it’s not even an ankle monitor. It saves lives. It prevents contracting a particularly infectious disease and it prevents spreading a particularly infectious disease to family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, fellow worshipers, and complete strangers. Who in God’s name is so important as to assert that s/he is too important to be required to protect their own health and safety and the health and safety of the general public? You follow the law when it comes to driving, but can’t follow a simple mandate to protect the lives and well-being of your fellow citizens? On what basis are you more important than ANYONE ELSE ON EARTH? Hypocrisy and arrogance don’t give you a license to endanger the lives and well-being of others. In the scheme of things, each of us is insignificant, but, united in the common goal of surviving economically and politically, we are indomitable. Are you absolutely determined to shame yourselves by channeling the arguments of Typhoid Mary? If so, recall the lengths to which you no doubt went to ostracize those infected with HIV-AIDS. Recall that deliberately or through gross negligence infecting individuals with HIV was a criminal offense and that if they died as a result, it was, at a minimum, manslaughter. And now you bitch and moan that a 23-gram mask violates your so-called personal freedom while utterly denying the fact that your arrogant spread of the Delta Variant violates the health and well-being of all those around you. Damn them, but recognize your right to infect!?! That is your hypocritical and arrogant ethos.

I don’t see the problem with masking. There were, prior to Covid, cities with such a horrible problem with smog that the population had to wear masks just to breathe. I wear a mask in most enclosed establishments and I see no problem for the little time that I’m there. It really is time for the US to grow up and stop pitching fits every time they have to do something the least bit confining. Freedom is all well and good, but there’s also something called doing it for the team.

Actually, Lisa, I’ve heard that the states hit hardest by the Delta variant (i.e. the least vaccinated states) have seen vaccinations well above the national average. And many experts are expecting Delta to peak and recede soon (the way it has in India and the UK). Vaccinations are up and vaccine hesitancy is down (though not as quickly as other countries) as it becomes clear that this is becoming a pandemic of the unvaxxed. In the meantime, the CDC is revising the mask rules in the hopes that we can get Delta to peak and recede sooner than otherwise and we can avoid new spikes and surges in the fall and winter of 2021/22 once the cooler weather sends people back indoors. I am fully vaxxed, and I consider wearing a mask while I’m in the supermarket or a bank a minor hassle at best. Especially if that means we’ll finally move past this sooner. This too shall pass.
