    In Kerala, India, slippers made out of old tyres were very popular. Probably, they still are. Cobblers used to make them by hand. Cheap and very sturdy. Can be used in the bathroom.

    Tire-soled Mexican huaraches may pre-date the Vietnamese sandals…

    They date from about the 1930’s, and by the 50’s and 60’s shod legions of beatniks, then hippies and surfers in California…

    due to our proximity to Mexico, where a sturdy, hand made pair could be bought for a couple of dollars.

    EVERYBODY had huaraches.
