Kelley has no idea how bad it can get. And he’s convinced (incorrectly) that his cartoons tell an important truth (so, also “no idea”). Kelley hasn’t seen neighbors or family shot just for being in the way. He hasn’t noticed young women prostituting themselves to stay alive awhile longer, put a little food on the table… because there is NO other work available. He’s never had to even notice that families have to make incredibly difficult choices in the hope that some of them will survive: no idea!
