I wish this moment in history was uniquely stupid.

Seems more like par for the course.

Walk at the water’s edge. Watch as a wave wipes away all trace of your steps. Realize your time is short. Savor it.

The noise-cancelling headphones are also a must and turn off the news.

And when the water level in Lake Mead drops too low for the Hoover Dam to generate power, how will all the people in Las Vegas try to explain away the blackouts??

Go find the clip of Trump talking about his first meeting with Prince Philip…. At one point, the Prince, when he meets with the president, gets to talking about climate change and how the world needs to, well, stop it. And in DJT’s recollection of the moment, he expressed amazement, awe, and confusion as to why a world leader was so concerned about an issue that, for all intents and purposes, wasn’t going to affect THAT particular world leader! In Trumps’s mind, the prince was either the nicest guy in the world or the biggest idiot in the world, as if solving problems for the citizens of their countries and for the citizens of the world shouldn’t really be a concern of world leaders!!!

It is hard to understand the frame of mind of those who are caught up in the QAnon conspiracy theories, but that is the place you must first understand if you are to make changes. They do not share our frame of reference or logical processes and only dig in deeper when challenged. Fear and blame have replaced trust and respect; reality can be brutal and complex and is much easier for them to choose an alt-reality where the plot — based on fear/blame, however irrational/inconsistent — is laid out for them and requires no critical thought. Yes, it is an effort to eradicate their fears and getting them to question the inconsistencies in their conspiracy, but the only way minds can be changed is from where they are, NOT from where we are. If we want to save our constitutional quasi-democratic republic, we have to work at it.

I live in an an inland valley in the Bay Area where it gets much warmer than the parts Mark Twain talked about. Last week featured 106 and 108. 20 years ago they would have been 98 and 100. The good thing is that when the Bay waters rise and flood the cooler areas we’ll still be semi-arid.
