Nighthawks, I found it unusual that StelBel didn’t do her usual sign-off last night. I hope she’s ok. She also posts about an hour after me in the morning, so something’s wrong.

Good morning, CDers!!

(Apologies to all who were worried!!! I got busy doin’ “stuff” last night around the house, then a long distance call from a friend, so I never came back to sign off last night. Then , this morning, we were at the supermarket at seven o’clock when they opened and I’ve been doing errands all morning ever since! I also apologize for not having more exciting excuses!! LOL

Seriously, thank you all for your concern. You are all very dear…and, I am thankful for that! And, I promise never to do a “puppybreath” (who’s not been here since early May, by the way. I do hope she’ll pop in and surprise us some day…).

I’ve got a busy day ahead, but hope to stop back tonight! If not, definitely tomorrow morning. Happy Day Before Thanksgiving!! to all of you!)

We got there before the really BIG crowd got there… whew!!

Fellow Baby I’ll have you know that I had to pick up some odds and ends as well this morning, as well. It was a breeze. On the return journey I saw that the Walmart parking lot was also rather empty around 8AM.

I was back at the shopping center at 9AM sharp to get my hair cut. I was the second customer. When I left there, there were a couple more stylists, but there were a few people now waiting for cuts.

On the return home, the line to turn north onto the I-45 service road (or turn into Walmart) was much longer. It took a few light changes to finally make the turn. The Walmart parking lot looked to be 3/4 full.

So if you really must shop on the day before Thanksgiving, the secret is, and has always been, to go very early. I had absolutely no problem getting in – or out, and obviously lived to tell about it.

StelBel I figure the Tur-Duc-Hen is bad enough as it is for the sodium and cholesterol levels as it is. However, I won’t skimp on the pepper bacon in my Irish lamb stew. It really adds to the flavor.

I thought I had deleted that HUGE picture, it must have been hiding in cyber space! Anyway, it’s gone now! LOL!

I had to stop at the grocery store after work yesterday because I had asked them to get me a Tofurkey, (YES FELLOW BABY a TOFURKEY!) One of the store managers lives out of town where their chain carries them for their diverse population, so he brought one over for me. I picked up a couple more items, and I was in and out too, because the girl at the Service Desk checked me out. I love that grocery store, they are so accommodating!

I hate to think what that Walmart parking lot looks like now – or will look like on Friday.

What can I say, my oldest is Vegan, You try to raise your kids right, but sometimes . . . . . I blame it on his education at Cornell!

I got my Tur-Duc-Hen early this year. I couple years ago, I tried to get one the Saturday before Thanksgiving and most all the places I went to were out – except the Kroger closest to me, which is not my favorite store. But at least they had an abundance of them. They also stock them pretty much year-round too.

Our local paper’s banner today advertises “the biggest edition of 2012”. No wonder, it’s loaded, and I MEAN LOADED, with sales circulars for Friday!

One of these days I am going to try a Tur-duc-hen for the fun of it!

They come in various sizes, from the smaller Tur-Duc-Hen roll to the full blown stuffed turkey with drumsticks. I bought that one one year and I was still eating it in mid-March.

Got my macaroni salad, cole slaw and deviled eggs made for tmr. I was going to peel my potatoes and put in water until tmr. but I am running out of room in my fridge. LIstened to my CD’s while I was working, that was fun. Quite a mix I had going. Asia, Boz Scaggs, Ben E. King, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, 38 Special, Billy Joel, Guns and Roses, Black Eyed Peas, etc.

Anybody know if you can make your stuffing ahead of time, or how far you can take it to get it started at lease? The bread cubes and celery and onions are done (thanks to the grocery store! LOL!)

So what do you do, sugie? Just mix everything together and then bake the next day?

Like the dog photo, it showed up this am, then disappeared! It was a Turduckhen covered in BACON!!:

My Tur-Duc-Hen roll will only take about 2 – 2 1/2 hours to cook. The stuffing will be Stove Top cornbread stuffing with some other ingredients I add to it. The taters & gravy will also be a piece of cake. I’ll add the juices from the birds to the gravy for a little added flavor.

And I still don’t see it on your latest post either, StelBel.

Hi Dry!I’ve had Tofurkey. It can be quite tasty, done well. Of course, it can be awful too, but then, if you have ever had dry turkey, you know that even turkey is iffy.

But I will wash dinner down with some Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape.

Red wine, Shika. I don’t like white wine. I like my wines red and room temperature.

I like Merlot, but I’m really partial to French wines from the Rhone region. Surprisingly, I also like some Australian reds.

SUGIE HOPE YOU SEE THIS! Actually, Tofurkays aren’t that bad. It is a different taste but the added spices make it quite interesting. Not something I would have on a regular basis, but it does taste good and it is interesting to try. Since I buy these at our holidays since my oldest went Vegan I always have some. Hubby won’t touch it because he’s “a Stick in the Mud”, Bro has had it and will eat some but he prefers real meat. But at least he will eat some! LOL!

I mean about the Australian wines?

Well, Shika, if you were offered a choice between a fine French wine and an Australian wine, what would you pick? But some Australian wines are actually quite good.

I don’t eat big slabs of meat like I used to, but I insist on having at least 4 ounces in my hot dinners.

That’s usually the way I feel, happy. I have the collection in hard cover from 1950 to 1970. That’s when I feel Sparky was really on his game. They were the best.

I have some old ones myself Grog. I love Peanuts.

happy I am glad your mom went to bed okay. I hope tomorrow will be good for the two of you. You are in my thoughts and prayers! My day will be the four of us, my sons, hubby and me. My parents are gone, I was an “only”, and hubby wasn’t close to his family. Most relatives I was close to, are now gone, I am close to 2 of my cousins, on opposite sides of my family and they live in VA and MD.

Not sure how it came about, Shika. but this year’s is the earliest it can be. I think it’s because it has to be the last long weekend in November.

Why does Thanksgiving in Canada have to be on a Monday in October? I don’t even know the answer to that.

I have heard that ours is in October because of the early start of fall/winter here. We have snow earlier than you. Most of our leaves are gone now.
