There is no doubt in my mind that they lie, regularly and often. That’s beyond annoying but what REALLY chaps my ass is that the rest of the “government” supports them in this, from DAs through police oversight boards (or whatever civilian control there is) to the courts themselves. Needing that “black skull of death” emoji.
It’s sad, but all of the people bemoaning the “Bad Press” and the “Negative Articles” about the increasing incidents of Police misconduct and outright lies and cover-ups of brutality and deaths at their hands seem to forget that it ISN’T the fault of the Media that is reporting these incidents, but rather it is the FAULT OF THE POLICE OFFICERS THAT ARE PERPETRATING THEM AND THEIR SUPERIORS THAT COVER UP THE INCIDENTS!!!
Are all cops bad? OF COURSE NOT! But the small minority of them that ARE either Borderline Psychotics who like beating up helpless people, or White Supremacists looking to institute their version of “Ethnic Cleansing” or WHATEVER they are, are befouling the reputations of ALL Police Officers. There needs to be stricter pre-employment background checks of prospective officers, and much more accountability for their actions from the top levels of Government all the way down to the average officer on the street.
A fellow we used to know (he’s gone to his reward) insisted that the police huddled around Rodney King were hitting the street with their batons, not Mr. King.
One simple action that can be taken is to make it a crime to lie on a police report punishable by a year in prison and permanent ineligibility from ever serving on a police force again. Note, this is not the ONLY action needed, but it is one. Won’t happen, but…
In the 21st freakin’ century, is it THAT hard to weed out police academy applicants who suffer from authoritarian personality disorder? Mind you, the problem isn’t limited to cops. Here in Kansas City (and elsewhere in Missouri, and elsewhere in the United States) we have prosecutors who are PROVEN to have knowingly solicited dishonest testimony (sometimes with bribes, more often with threats). We had a judge with a gambling problem not all that many years ago who took bribes to cover her losses. Then, of course, there’s that tricky matter of so many cops having “throwaway guns” that they can plant as evidence……….

The Louisiana State Police initially said Ronald Greene died from his car hitting a tree and filed a report riddled with outright false statements.
After the video was leaked, they complain that it is “compromising the ongoing investigation.”
For goddess sake, they have been “investigating” for TWO YEARS.
They have already been caught in their multiple LIES.
The only thing that is getting “compromised” is their COVER-UP.

Maybe all public servants should have to pass the “of sound mind” qualification to eliminate those who want to act on their prejudices with impunity?
