Given the current emphasis on STEM courses at the expense of humanities, this cartoon makes no sense. Mr. Goodwyn might wish to consult his physician about changes in his meds regimen.
The effectiveness of right-wing propaganda: I assumed “Critical Race Theory” was an example of left-wing academic excess, which I often don’t much like myself. A phrase to roll one’s eyes at.
So I looked it up. It’s just the belief that racism is ingrained in the system in America. Which is not some weird new-fangled theory, but something completely obvious and undeniable.
But Republicans just keep repeating it in a flippant, mocking tone until people ASSUME it’s something ridiculous.
Ol Al probably knows some grade-school teachers. And if they’re friends, then very likely they’re as incompetent at teaching as he is at current events. And yeah, incompetent teachers CAN make STEM subjects worse. Way back in the antediluvian when I was in grade school, “The three Rs” was the order of the day, until Sputnik ignited some feeling that we should be doing better, and it was mostly the STEM subjects (though they didn’t call it that) that got a push. So in 8th grade, my school started teaching algebra (we had already been pushed hard in English and Science… because in that small school, the 5th and 6th grades were taught by someone who had a good grasp of the need, and had the ability to teach those things well). It started out as a disaster. Our teacher had a teaching degree, earned in the 1940s, and had, he TOLD us, flunked college math TWICE before he found a sympathetic professor who “found a way” to give him a passing grade. The school, though, thought it was important, so in November, we got a special “math only” teacher who was taking a half year off from his job as a mining engineer to teach math to the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students (in those days, teaching credentials were just as necessary as today, but the bureaucrats hadn’t gotten quite so entrenched, and he got a “provisional” okay to do teach, as long as he was “supervised”. Whoa. The sky opened, the sun shone through, Peggy and Owen (and a couple of others) got “special assistance” from an aide and the rest of us LEARNED SOME REAL MATH.
Summary: Good teachers can make a HUGE (even a YUGE) difference. As can ill prepared ones. And they’re rarer than they ought (and need) to be.

In Al’s Universe, racism is perfectly acceptable and a regular part of life. No need to address it at all.
As for STEM, we’ve seen what DeVos and the Republicans had done to sabotage the program. Also a feature that happened in Al’s universe.

Does Al even know what STEM or CRT is? He certainly has shown he doesn’t understand racism.

Critical Race Theory is simple: When you’ve bet all your rent and grocery money, it’s critical that your horse wins.

Must be a southern school where they teach Creation as a, cough, cough, science. They really have screwed up their kids abilities to be well educated.

I suppose it could get worse, but I don’t see how. Unless of course, this is Al projecting his thoughts and hoping?
