ABSOLUTELY! Here in Ohio. Businesses curtailing hours or shutting altogether because there are no workers to be had. Almost every business you see has Now Hiring signs up. There are definitely people that need the extra unemployment, but not everyone. This will lead to inflation. Going to have to pay the workers more just to get them out of their houses.

Mike, for the folks I know in the situation you drew the son wouldn’t acknowledge that his father was talking. For the businesses I’m in, provide for, and purchase from – the experience is those who are willing to pay for workers get them and those who aren’t don’t. Its almost as if the free market is doing what its supposed to.

Maybe you are only offering to pay them the least you can get away with while treating them like subhumans. In many places you can’t live on minimum wage.

Actually, if I remember correctly, unemployment benefits stop if the recipient refuses a job. So, if businesses are hiring, workers must then go to work.

Not to mention that this is keeping the consumer economy alive this whole time.

The thing about short-term planning/thinking is that the folks who get their heads up out of their … basket-o-lies and look around can get a real advantage over the ones who don’t. Which is no different than it ever was. Here’s the bottom line, imo:

If you can’t get workers at the pay rate you’re offering, you just have to offer more!  (doh) — Oh, and, if you can’t make a living paying a living wage, you’re not running a business, you’re running a charity (for yourself).

I see Mike has his facts twisted again to create a false narrative, no surprise there. It’s not that people are being offered more to stay home, it’s that businesses aren’t offering enough for them to live on.

And if that were really the case, does it not say there is something wrong with the wages the businesses wish to pay? Social welfare is worked out on the bare minimum needed to merely survive, whilst starvation wages are based on profit and greed.

Any company that cannot or will not pay a living wage should not be in business in the first place.

The son is obviously making more for the family not working than they would if the son helped in the family business. Seems the business must not be profitable and therefore not paying any income taxes.

Maybe he should re-evaluate what he pays his employees, if he needs them so badly…

Are all political cartoons supposed to be funny? This is less funny, and more alarming. Are all political cartoons supposed to just be thought provoking? This is a little funnier than just thought provoking.

Here, let me fix that for you:“Our family business can’t find workers because we won’t to pay our employees a living wage”

How about businesses paying their workers a living wage so they wouldn’t make more from unemployment than working for them? Or instituting a Universal Basic Income (UBI), so un and under-employed Americans can meet basic expenses and provide for their families? If these people didn’t have to worry about paying the bills and their child care, perhaps they could find a better paying job or go back to school to improve their skills. Just saying.
