Statehood is NOT a requirement for DC resident to have representation in the House. The @GOP won’t allow because they know those are 3 seats that they would never get.
Statehood is a bad and un-democratic idea. Two Senators from D.C. would have the same Power as two from California, but represent only one fiftieth of the people. We have that situation now with states like Wyoming, and New york. It needs to be changed, not made worse.
What can we do to save the lost souls who are buying into the right-wing extremism … or are we just going to call them stupid/irrational as they steal the government of our constitutional quasi-democratic republic with politically-driven dirty tricks?
Granting statehood to DC would require a constitutional amendment. When DC was created, land was taken from Virginia and Maryland. Shortly after, the Virginia land was given back. Do the same to the Maryland land, leaving only the Federal buildings. Thus citizens are just like citizens any where else.
It will be interesting to see how the DC state legislature and the Washington City Council work out the inevitable jurisdictional disputes over the same Federal parcels of land. I can envision one governmental agency passing the buck to another bringing the dysfunction to a whole new level.
The racist republican minority is afraid of the American people and they are trying to pass unconstitutional laws to suppress the votes of people of color. Jim Crow Jordan wouldn’t even be in office if it wasn’t for elaborate gerrymandering.
Off-topic a bit, but with the talk of Oliphant (my all-time favorite) and Toles (who ranks pretty high up there), and Bill Mauldin (also ranking high on my personal list), nobody even mentioned Herblock? (Of course, Thomas Nast was slightly before my time………)

How about a compromise? Let’s call it the Carib/Potomac Compromise and admit PR as a slave state and DC as a free state.

GQPs are livid that despite their efforts, it is still legal to vote against Republicans…
