«According to Breitbart, Rasmussen reported concerning their poll:75% Support Voter ID LawsAs the U.S. Senate considers legislation that would revamp America’s election laws, voters still overwhelmingly support laws requiring that voters show identification before casting a ballot.
Seventy-five percent (75%) of Likely U.S. Voters believe voters should be required to show photo identification such as a driver’s license before being allowed to vote. Only 21% are opposed to such a requirement.
Thirty-six states have enacted some form of voter ID law, but those laws would be nullified if the Senate approves H.R. 1, which passed the House on a party-line vote. Critics say H.R. 1 “would force states to allow anyone to vote who simply signs a form saying that they are who they claim they are.”
Support for voter ID laws has actually increased since 2018, when 67% said voters should be required to show photo identification such as a driver’s license before being allowed to vote.Eighty-nine percent (89%) of Republicans support voter ID requirements, as do 60% of Democrats and 77% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

“Breitbart says” … which tells me that I really REALLY need to find some better evidence, one way or another.
So, how does that national voter ID law work? Every registered voter automatically, without having to travel any further than any other voter or pay any fee, is issued an ID? Fine. Do it. But what has that got to do with the attempts on the right to disenfranchise voters in so many other ways? The fact is, if we were all issued a national voter ID card, Republicans would still work as hard as they could to make sure Democrats can’t vote. Voter suppression has been the right’s thing for more that 100 years.
Hmm, that was a 2011 Rasmussen (RW) poll. "A 2011 Rasmussen poll found that 75% of likely voters “believe voters should be required to show photo identification, such as a driver’s license, before being allowed to vote.”"
I think HR-1 would address something like that. However, I think I have a solution that would fix that and many other issues…
If you really want to make sure everyone has a proper photo ID, why not issue a National ID card, issued to every citizen born in the USA. It could be updated every year for the first 10 years, then every 2 years from ages 10 to 20, then every 5 years thereafter. It would be created with the latest microchip and biometric technology, which may include fingerprint, retinal scan, and/or DNA. Those who become US Citizens would also be issued a National ID card and fall under the same guidelines. Legal foreign residents would be issued a Foreign National ID which would be updated annually. Cont…
Republiclans just want the “requirement” of a national ID law, but none of the responsibility for making it happen. That way they can use the law AGAINST people they don’t like and pretend they are being responsible.
SKelley, voting is a STATE right, not federal. Does the fed have the authority to mandate state voter identification? Do you also support HR1? I did not think so.
In all this discussion, many of the major roadblocks to voting ate not being considered. Voter ID becomes irrelevant when mail-in voting occurs. Restriction of the number of voting places, drop-off boxes for ballots, Sunday voting (in civilized countries, voting is often on a non-workday) and similar ploys are the reality of the RW push to restrict the vote. Kelley can moan all he wants about ID requirements, but that is only the tip of the RW anti-vote iceberg.
Need to complete the context here. Americans support voter IDs (although State versions more than a national version) as long as those IDs are consistently given out and don’t require working through an obstacle course.
What do they know? I know what they know: the 75% have simply been bamboozled by the ceaseless unfounded, counterfactual, and self-serving racket about election fraud, from one side of the aisle only.
But voting is a states rights issue, not Federal. States have had 15 + years to institute the REAL ID that Bush2 wanted. Still waiting in some states, especially red states. Kelly pulls another out his ….
I dont think the right likes the idea of national control though either, maybe this is something the post office could do for those folks that dont have a drivers license . . then makes sure the states accept that also
We have always needed an ID card to vote: it was called a registration card. All these Republican laws requiring an ID do nothing to facilitate the opportunity to get that registration card; they are designed to make it harder to register. The United States Constitution says laws are to be “necessary and proper…” to be legal. Since there is virtually no voter fraud, thus no necessity for these laws, they should be struck down.
The conservatives on the United States Supreme Court struck down part if the Voting Rights Act of the 1960s on the contention that the problem addressed by the law had been successful, therefore the law was no longer necessary and thus unconstitutional. But as soon as that portion of the law was voided, the states that were responsible for the law being made rushed right back to doing the sins that made the law necessary in the first place.
Then IDs need to be free of charge and easily accessible, else its a poll tax. Also if a person does not have an ID then they should still be allowed to vote and their vote marked as such… and if the election is a nail biter then those votes get revisited. There are fair ways to address the rights delusion of election fraud that doesn’t disenfranchise millions… IF that was what they actually wanted to achieve.
When the media presents the bill as $1400 in free money for everyone, except the rich, and vaccine production, who wouldn’t support it? Unfortunately, too many didn’t know about all the pork. The media did it’s job by NOT reporting thoroughly. As with DemOcare, the Democrats relied on “the stupidity of the American voter”.

You have to show ID to buy Pseudoephedrine or beer or for other transactions, so why is it a problem for when you vote?

In many countries you registrar to vote once for life.
Its only Republicans who make life difficult for voters and force them to cross hurdles to vote at every election.
The USA ranks about 48th in democracy, thanks to democracy hating election rigging vote suppressing anti democracy republicans.
