There are many strays in my neighborhood, all the black ones I call Pie, after Piwhackit (not sure on spelling) from “Bell,Book, and Candle” The long hairs are Harry, which can be short for Harriet when applicable, with the exception of the gray long hair, which sticks out every which way..that’s Bernie. Don’t know their sexes unless they are pregnant. I just feed ’em a bit without getting close up & personal.
When I left home to enlist my Mother has an all black cat named SAM, for Samantha. One afternoon the cat had been napping on top of her bedroom dresser. The windows were open on a fine summer day, and sadly, poor Mom didn’t see the cat… until she jumped to the floor scaring the poor woman. She shouted as loud only a startle could bring: “SAM, You black bastard! Get OUT of my bedroom!!”
We’ve had both a “Boots” and a “Shadow” named cats. Both sadly long passed. Shadow really should have stayed in the dark, he died of skin cancer of all things – just from being in our enclosed porch – he was not a free range cat. Boots was a stray kitten we adopted off the street. Many medical issues with him, poor guy didn’t live two months. I call him our $5000 cat as that was about what the vet bills came too.

It was our kids job to name our animals. Our first cat was “Squirmels”, and later we had “Abby” She was a funny one and fit her name (abby normal)

I like Dexter. My black cat was named Annie. A rescue with only one eye. I loved her to bits.

Pretty sure after the eponymous tv show, not many people will want to be named Dexter.

Why not name the cat Exegesis Crust?
