I’m in favor of people waiting a LOOOOOONG time before they procreate. Even the very best of them. I’m also in favor of people who aren’t going to love them REALLY WELL waiting even longer.
Considering the population bomb that is killing the planet I think you should have to earn the right to have children. It’d be unenforcable of course. Mother nature will have to do it the hard way.
To be fair, we SHOULD be providing those as investments in our future. Most countries with high standards of living — higher than ours — and with happier citizens — provide these things as a matter of course. We don’t because we believe we should be out for ourselves alone, and if “they” don’t “deserve” it, they shouldn’t have it. But yo can inherit millions and billions without lifting a finger….
From an article in The Street: " middle-income, married-couple parents of a child born in 2015 will spend, on average, $233,610 ($284,570 if projected inflation costs are factored in) “for food, shelter, and other necessities to raise a child through age 17 and this does not include the cost of a college education,” the USDA report says."
So am I! The problem is, I’ll be 52 in April, so my biological clock is ticking. Can’t wait much longer to be able to afford my own biological children or I won’t be physically able to have them due to menopause. Gotta fertilise those eggs whilst they are fresh.
Support the raise in minimum wage, because when that goes up, so do everyone else’s wages. And when that happens, kids become more affordable. In the meantime, enjoy your tax deduction the kids do get you.

You could always move to one of the civilized first world countries where they take care of their citizens’ health and education.

It’ll be a long wait if you keep voting Republican.

I was 22 and my wife was 21 when we got married. We had our first child a year later. Had he done the same thing, we’d be great-grandparents by now.
My wife and I will be celebrating our 50th anniversary this year: we know we beat the odds.

With all the voter suppression that’s being pushed by the Republicans there is not a chance of this happening.
