They mainly are nosey. Can’t eavesdrop if you can’t understand. Me I know of like listening and seeing if I can get the gest of the conversation. To me, it is fun to watch and listen to people speaking in foreign languages. If you are a friend I may ask what you were talking about as your conversation was so passionate or the like.

About 1952, in Colorado City, Texas I was in the 5th grade. Two boys were caught speaking Spanish on the school ground during recess. The principal called an assembly and whipped them before the whole school. Beating was more like it. Texas principals and coaches had 2×4 or 2×6 4 foot long paddles to beat boys with.Beat the Mexican out of them.

Stop it. Just stop it! Names of actual people should not be used as slurs, put-downs, or insults. If your little girl were named Karen, would you be prepared to tell her that nobody really means all the sneers and teasing she’s been getting when she comes home from school in tears?

The same people who complain about every little thing that they think violates their “rights” often think nothing of violating other peoples’ rights…

I don’t recall who it was (John Leguizamo?), but I heard a Latinx comedian do a bit about overhearing two people publically conversing in Chinese. “You’re in America now! Speak Spanish!”
