That’s totally how it works. Just like when you attempt to rob a bank (or coerce a foreign government into providing domestic political aid) but get caught. No harm, no foul!
A lot of people are making the point for which this is sarcasm. They’re correct to do so. The GOP, of course, is claming the felon is completely correct here.
To avoid having to defend Trump’s indefensible conduct, many republicans are taking refuge in the argument that it’s unconstitutional to impeach a president who has already left office. This is simply untrue, as more than 150 legal scholars — including a co-founder of the Federalist Society! — point out.
“In 1876,” they note, “Secretary of War William Belknap tried to avoid impeachment and its consequences by resigning minutes before the House voted on his impeachment. The House impeached him anyway, and the Senate concluded that it had the power to try, convict, and disqualify former officers.”
Just like saying you won’t call for a bullet to be put in the head of Democratic leadership anymore (least in public or on social media where there’s accountability) but you’re not sorry that you said so in the past.
An impeachment trial is not part of our justice system. If he is aquitted in the senate, that should not count against his being tried in our normal justice system for things like sedition. Give him a fair trial with a jury that isn’t predisposed to aquittal.
Pretty much the GOP defense these days. Much like not wanting to hold a current Congresswoman accountable for comments made during the lead up to her election. Ummm yeah.
The GOP gave MTG a standing ovation at a closed door meeting. McCarthy is claiming that she apologized and denounced the statements, but she has must do that in public for it to count. Her FOLLOWERS need to hear that this is reprehensible language.
Seems funny to me that these are the same people who, with their evangelical tendencies, both want the government to assist Israel toss out the Palestinians, and so hasten the rapture, can’t stand Jews! Or, do I have it all wrong?
No one so far has noted the genius of this comic strip: the laser shooting down into the Q’s mouth is shooting out of a solar panel driven “dreidel” ( a spinning top with Hebrew letters on 4 sides which together means “a great miracle happened there!”). Lalo Alcaraz has created an ingenious political cartoon, a little miracle in itself!
Got to turn on the TV and watch the Republicans vote to keep “Q” on the two committees ?Marjorie Taylor Greene has them in a corner not been able to vote in secret. We’ll see if they will vote their conscience , , , , , or JUST PARTY . . . no matter what as always.

I have been thinking the same thing. If a mass-murderer ceases his/her murderous activity……are we not able to prosecute? This is B.S. beyond belief!

They say the best way to rob a bank is to own one. Trump saw past presidents getting away with high crimes and wanted that power.

The problem is that it will go to court, or courts, and take years to decide, and with Trump’s appointees, he could win.

When someone steals from you it’s called a “crime”, when the government steals from you it’s called “legislation”

Everyone knows if you rob a bank and make it home they can’t arrest you cause you’re home and not in the bank anymore.

1000 legal scholars plus 200 precedents don’t mean s##t. It has never been decided by the SCOTUS, and we all know how un-biased they are.

Now the cartoon has been switched from bank robbery to Jewish space lasers, what a modern age we live in.

At least the GQP is finally admitting it is insane.
They GQP held a ‘secret’ ballot last night, the Greene faction lost by a large majority.
