Boy, that variant got BIG! And it has TEETH! Did it merge with an Arrakis sandworm?

Had somebody not preemptively fired our national pandemic team and trashed all the instructions of our best-knowledge on how to handle a pandemic threat, who knows how things may have different? Anyone betting things could have been any worse? (Montana Bull$###, waiting for you on your thoughts?)

With all the variants and now news that in addition to the two vaccines at least one “booster” will be required, when will it end?

Don’t know why a new variety should surprise anyone.. It is afterall how all life on this planet started and continues to evolve into niches where it survives best.

We can only hope that any vaccines developed are somewhat to totally effective against new varieties of COVFEFE-45 which develop. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work with new flu strains but covid-19 might be different.

People keep fixating on the UK strain and the South African strain and so on. There are probably a lot of new variants right now developing here in the USA, given the high rate of infections we have, but we have not done the genetic sequencing to detect them. In fact, in both Ohio and Southern California where sequencing has been done, new variants have been detected and associated with a surge in infections. As has been pointed out, viruses are not mobile in and of themselves. They travel because we allow them to travel through us. The fortunate part is that the new vaccines are fairly easy to modify and that we are beginning to see probable variants to incorporate into a vaccine. For example, the N501Y mutant has apparently arisen at least 3 times independently and in all cases is more infective. In vitro lab studies show it to bind to the cell receptor more strongly than the original strain and modeling programs show why. There is hope, but people must learn to cooperate in what needs to be done.

A doctor once asked Trump if he ever got the “clap”.

We are going to have this pandemic around for a long time. Stay safe, and get on with your lives.
