The military is aware of the psychosis of Hair Groppingfuror and will ensure that neither nuclear nor conventional forces are ordered into action by him.
Lots of commenters on these political toons believe that those in military service understand the US Constitution. They think that those people will uphold it and defend our democracy despite any political views held.
I doubt that it has changed from a generation ago but I can absolutely say that is not true and you would be naive to believe it. There are many dangerous people in uniform and high positions of authority who believe that military rule would be best here. I heard some of the worst remarks by an E-9 and O-3 in conversation.
If you think that is a fantasy or left wing conspiracy theory you need only to research how many men (I don’t recall any women involved) on active duty or in civilian government roles who have been arrested for treason, sedition, spying, selling government weapons, and “routine” felonies.
MAYBE he still has the nuclear codes – or maybe he thinks he has the codes… his staff has admitted for years that they tell him what he wants to hear and keep things away from him that they do not trust him with… and particularly after he sent a mob to attack Congress several military leaders have admitted that they will not automatically follow his commands if they are concerned about them harming the country…
I believe he has to have someone else enter a confirmation code. If I was the officer carrying the football I would have the techs change two digits on the football code until the 20th.
Presidents should have to undergo medical and psychological tests periodically by an independently qualified team of physicians who report findings to a bipartisan congressional committee. Everyone has been commenting on his mental status, but nothing has been done to remove him from power. I’ve never liked tanTrump, but wouldn’t it be a shame if we were all to find out that he was experiencing a psychotic break that, if diagnosed, could have allowed him to be removed without stigma, averted the insurrection, and saved Brian Sicknick’s life? I say “without stigma” because people with mental health crises have traditionally been blamed for problems that they couldn’t help, any more than someone experiencing a physical ailment.
The commander-in-chief’s power is clear: He or she has sole authority to use nuclear weapons.
The top brass is brought in
Before initiating military action, the president convenes a conference with military and civilian advisers in Washington and around the world to talk through options. In the White House, the call takes place in the Situation Room. If traveling, the president is patched in on a secure line. A key participant in the meeting: the Pentagon’s deputy director of operations, an officer in charge of the National Military Command Center, also known as the “war room.” This around-the-clock operations center is responsible for preparing and ultimately transmitting a launch order from the president. The head of all U.S. strategic nuclear forces at Strategic Command in Omaha would probably also be asked for a briefing on strike options.
The consultation lasts as long as the president wishes, but if enemy missiles are heading toward the U.S. and the president must order a counterstrike, the consultation may last just 30 seconds. The tight time line raises the risk of launching hastily on a false warning.
The president decides to launch
Some advisers may try to change the president’s mind or resign in protest—but ultimately, the Pentagon must comply with the commander-in-chief’s order.
The order is verified
The senior officer in the Pentagon war room must formally authenticate that the person ordering the strike is indeed the president. The officer reads a “challenge code,” often two phonetic letters from the military alphabet, such as “Delta-Echo.” The president retrieves the “biscuit,” a laminated card the president or military aide carries at all times, and finds the matching response to the challenge code: “Charlie-Zulu,” for instance.
The order goes out
The war room prepares the launch order, a message that contains the chosen war plan, time to launch, authentication codes, etc.

Actually Nancy took steps to make sure Trump would be unable to nuke anyone.

Unless I am very mistaken, no one person can launch a nuke attack. It takes two to tango as i recall, at least two people from a very small group.

Please do watch this address by Governor Schwartzenegger.
His response to America’s Kristalltag is excellent.

Just because he has access to the codes doesn’t mean he can launch. All military officered are obliged to ignore an illegal order.
