It’s actually a good way to diet. But it has to be on paper, no tracking app on your phone. The inconvenience of getting the log out and writing things down makes you think a bit before eating.

As the comic Victor Buono AKA King Tut on the Batman, once said, “You are what you eat said the wise old man. Lord, if that’s true, then I’m a garbage can!”

I did that the first time I dieted. I counted every calorie. I tried to keep it under 2000 a day. I lost 25 pounds in three months. Then I gave up, and gained the weight back. I tried it again a few years later, but my metabolism slowed, so I would have to keep it under 1800 a day. I wasn’t as dedicated. Fast-forward to March of 2020. We were among the lucky ones who didn’t lose our incomes, and in fact had a windfall by doing Instacart shopping while out of work. Not to mention a big check from the government. So we did our part by supporting local businesses by eating takeout. A lot. I’ve gained about 20 pounds since the shutdown.
