Too many cops become cops because it allows them to get away with unsocial behavior in the name of the law. Until police departments and unions choose to weed out this population, the problem will not go away. Shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later is not working; training should emphasize de-escalation and cooperation well before need for force.
The use of the phrase “defund police” is why the Democrats lost House seats and won’t have a Senate majority. That, and not effectively countering the socialist tag.
Sometimes <ctrl><alt><delete>, is the only way to get the system back to useful. Sometimes you can get away with less draconian measures. Each cop-shop needs to be evaluated on its own “merits”.
Weeding the bullies out the police department and putting in a psychological test for their replacements should be required. My brother in law was a cop in a small Texas town. He was a bully in high school to the point of exhibiting psychological issues in the stuff that he did, and he was able to turn that hobby into a profession by joining the local police department.
Our police should be carefully chosen, required to wear cameras, and any complaints should be reviewed by a citizen’s committee, elected by the citizens of the community. I can assure you he would have never been a cop, because he would never have applied for the job under those rules. I said he was evil, I didn’t say he was stupid.
