Time for an Astro 101 class. If the lighted part of the thin crescent Moon is facing to the left, it’s shortly before sunrise, so they’ve been up all night! So it’s Jan. 1 already. Or they live in the Southern Hemisphere, but that seems unlikely. This is a common sort of mistake in comics, of course: how many cartoonists have TAKEN Astro 101, after all? All right, class dismissed :-)
