My go to Christmas movie is The Lion In Winter. Mother is released from prison to spend Christmas with her estranged husband, his mistress, and her three sons. They spend the holiday bickering about who will take over the family business (the crown). Best enjoyed with a chalice of mulled wine.
I read a synopsis of one of those movies years ago. And then another and did not go beyond the second one when I realized that, like Imaginarium said, they were all the same movie. They have moved beyond heterosexual white characters, but the plots are still the same old same old. They are all cheerfully avoided.
I don’t think this is a Hallmark movie, but it does take place around Christmas and is one I would watch (again). It is the 1999 movie “One Special Night” starring Julie Andrews (age 64) and James Garner (age 71). It was their 3rd movie together. It was great.

Whereas I can’t watch a Hallmark Christmas movie without at least one six-pack.

Hallmark characters can’t go more than 15 minutes without having another cup of hot cocoa

So far, we can recommend only three of this year’s offerings: The Christmas Bow, Timeless Christmas, and Christmas Carousell.

Our Christmas Eve tradition is watching the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol with a mug of hot cocoa and some Christmas cookies.

Don’t watch chick flicks! The one my wife was watching seemed like it was written by some middle school student.

And plugger guys wouldn’t be caught dead in the vicinity of a Hallmark Christmas movie.
