Once I learned to wire the tree to the wall, this was no longer a problem. The next lesson was never to hang anything dangly on the bottom third of the tree.

Seems pretty calm for a cat that has a pine tree stuck in his head.

we had a cat that liked to climb into the tree – solution – tie it to the wall

We always had a really big tree in front of the front window, so my dad put a stout nail in the overhead beam and wired it to the ceiling. Then, two dogs racing to the window to bark and two cats who liked to climb trees could all do so safely.

And the delicate blown-glass ornaments were safe, too. My parents had some lovely antique glass ornaments that were always hung on the top half of the tree. On the bottom half were all the “unbreakables” as we called them. Some looked like the glass ones, but others were delightfully homemade by kid hands.

Toppling and righting – good exercise for cat and person alike.
