National TV Talk Show Host Day. I don’t watch any of the TV talk shows.

National Mole Day. I know of 2 kinds of moles. There’s the type you can get om your skin and there’s the little critter than makes tunnels all over our yards. Neither deserves a day of recognition, in my opinion. So I looked it up to see which of these things it’s about. Turns out it was neither of these. Here is what it said,

“NATIONAL MOLE DAY

National Mole Day recognizes a special number in chemistry. We’ll eliminate any visions of a burrowing creature celebration immediately. Chemists and chemistry students mark the occasion each year on October 23rd.

More specifically, the celebrations take place between 6:02 AM and 6:02 PM. In the U.S., the time and date are written 6:02 10/23. The time and date are derived from Avogadro’s number. Avagadro’s number is approximately 6.02×10^23. Hence, defining the number of particles (atoms or molecules) in one mole of substance, one of the seven base SI units.

A mole is a unit of measurement used in chemistry to express amounts of a chemical substance.Avogadro’s number is a historical term closely related to the Avogadro constant.The Avogadro constant is named after the early 19th-century Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro."

It turned majorly cold here last night. The wind was, and still is, fierce. I left the den window open and this morning there’s fine grit on my desk. Had to dust everything before I could do anything else.

The kittens are doing great! They sure have come a long way since the day I got them.

That’s a very grumpy looking cat.

When I think of the song about the swallows returning, I hear the lyrics to the Disney parody about the buzzards returning to Hinkley. My iPod became obsolute with the newest iTunes update happened. No more podcasts when I use my treadmill. Blech!

The cat will get over it soon and get back to sleep.

Cats in the wild normally get 16 hours of sleep a day. To do that in the modern, domesticated world, sometimes they have to “double up”.

It is late in the day, but google “star nosed mole”……I’ve encountered them several times in my yard. I’m in northernmost Maine. They are about as long as beer can and half as round. Ugly!

How inconsiderate of them! I guess you shouldn’t let sleeping cats lie. On another note, saw two robins and a squirrel while out walking today.
