This brought to mind (besides the obvious current political parallel) a line that’s stuck in my head from a 1981 Doonesbury. It even came up when googled the phrase. Secretary of State Al Haig, with an interpreter being interviewed. Uses fuzzy political buzzwords. And in the last panel”We plan to scenario them rosily” His interpreter is cut off before he lays it out in plain language.

Should have taken the Chinese approach, ‘non-aggressively’ take over others territory, and have the entire Navy just over the horizon in case anyone wants to dispute that you’re building military bases.

Then insist it’s all due to the ‘aggression’ of others.

There’s something wrong with that sentence. “He just caused one of the fact-checker’s head to explode.” One of his or her head? One of the head?

    No no no no no.

If you’re talking about “one of” anything, you’ve got something in the plural. So it would be one of the heads, or one of the fact-checkers. And if you’ve only got one fact-checker, then it would be: “He just caused one of the fact-checker’s heads to explode.” But it’s okay, because the fact-checker had multiple heads.

On the other hand, if you’ve got multiple fact-checkers, and each of them has only one head, then the sentence would be: “He just caused one of the fact-checkers’ head to explode.” But if the fact-checkers have multiple heads, it would be: “He just caused one of the fact-checkers’ heads to explode.”

What took it so long for someone’s head to explode? This has been going on for years.
