On the topic of being “humble,” in 1950s movie The Crimson Pirate, the pirate ship’s first mate was named Humble Bellows, and he had a tendency to speak of doing things “humbly.” Just six minutes into the film, Bellows’ first line was sarcastically saying to a man he’d just strangled (apparently to unconsciousness), “My humble apologies!”
