Gorbachev’s “We will bury you!” should have been a warning to protect ourselves from internal divisiveness and disinformation about democracy from authoritarian/fascist right-wing extremists. The authority of the collective consent of We the People has been tuned into the well-known divide and conquer tactics championed by enemies of democracy.
I’m reminded of the Sesame Street song accompanying four images: “Three of these things belong together, three of these things are kind of the same…”. The false equivalency, of course, is that neither Trump or Putin would ever be considered in the same league as the other presidents (and Reagan’s quote just barely elevates him from the other damage he caused, IMO).
