The phone, is understandable. But how could a human possibly think homework is more interesting than a cat or unicorn? She’s clearly defective, and needs to be forcibly reminded of proper priorities.
My parents raised us what felt like free range, but was actually pretty tightly controlled about some things: Dinner at 5:30 on the dot. Homework starts by 4:30 pm and if not finished is taken up again immediately after supper chores. Bedtime absolutely fixed (age dependent) and enforced (They even took away my flashlight when they caught me reading after curfew).
Point being: By the time I entered the workforce I had excellent learning habits. Which was good, because I spent a lot of time as an autodidact for my job(s).
Kind of reminds me of my husband. He and I could be sitting in a room together for several hours and I would try to start a conversation, but he would be reading. However, as soon as I put on my computer headphones to listen to music or YouTube, he decides he has got to tell me all about his day, what junk mail he got, what cold calls he got, what irritated him on YouTube. (I worked and he was home on disability) I tried to give him time to talk to me, but he never said anything until I wanted to listen to something other than silence.

My eldest cat tends to prefer my attention the most and lightly rubs her claws on my skin.
Not her fault my skin is to weak to handle soft scratching:-).

The homework itself is hard enough. That’s why I used to finish it before school is over.
