Just like Florida spring break and New Orleans Mardi Gras: super spreaders. Some of the Sturgis revelers are going to end up dead given their ages and apparent state of health. Sturgis gras.
The local stations were reporting estimates of 160,000 motorcycles (not people — that will be greater), a slightly smaller number than recent average, but not greatly so. I really thought the guy who said that people keep their distance from each other — when on their bikes — was amusing. Then you see the bikes parked with barely enough distance to dismount. And see the bikers packed into a store. No bar or eatery scenes were shown. Or restrooms…
Well, I suppose riding a motorcycle represents a life lived with hazards, and makes for a sang froid attitude toward risks like COVID-19. Probably more will die from accidents on their bikes than the virus. But they will surely spread it when they travel and return home … just as the virus was spread from China.
Gosh, I hope the South Dakota governor goes to Sturgis or Deadwood to tell these folks how grateful she is for their money for the local and state economy. I’m sure they would give her loud cheers and help spread the virus…
Mr. Ariall, looked thru your strips this year and saw none commenting on the spread of Covid during the BLM demonstrations or the riots associated with them or the wild parties in NYC outside of bars. Why is that? Could you have a blind eye for certain groups of people possibly spreading the virus?

The residents of Sturgis must have had The Welcome Wagon burned to the ground to celebrate the news.

There are old bikers and there are bold bikers, but there are no old, bold bikers. (This a spin-off from a comment by E. Hamilton Lee, 1949)

People with time on their hands, and space in their heads.
