We had one of the first computers. It was a Heathkit. We got “on line” using “compuserve” to access the MTSU library. Yeah, I was married before the internet. That makes me older than dirt. LOL
My dad’s best friend had one of the first personal home computers. Took up an entire room all four walls, and had all the big cabinets and reels. There was no internet, just a bunch of punchcards. This was back in the late fifties, early sixties. I appreciate the latest tech in certain situations but the farm keeps me on the ground (in the dirt) ; )
I enjoy telling all the whippersnappers about mainframes, and using one of the first calculators, and seeing the very first video games developed.
My father worked at LANL. One night, he and another scientist discovered that you could type words onto one terminal and have them appear on another terminal and have a conversation! They exchanged a couple of puns and went back to work.
I remember a screen about the size of a dinner plate on which we watched static, with an occasional glimpse of an old cowboy movie. And, the neighbors all came over to see it too.
