It’s true that we lose some of our ability to detect extremely unpleasant tastes as we get older. (On the other hand, we survive to get older by instinctively avoiding bitter-tasting substances, which are usually poisonous.) But I don’t think Ginger is old enough to have lost that ability, unless he is experiencing a potentially serious medical condition that ought to be investigated. Or, admittedly, he may be one of those people who have never had the ability to taste what broccoli actually tastes like, and only avoid it due to peer pressure.
I remember an old strip from the 1960s called “The Smith Family,” where the mother frequently served liver. One strip, their son, Georgie, came in and sked his mom what was for dinner, and she replied, “Revil!” He was ecstatic for a moment until he realized that it was “liver” backwards.
