I am attempting to be a writer. In one story I have the main character going back in time and being in Europe. She uses the word ‘Hummingbird’ and it confuses the locals. She then has to describe a bird that everyone thinks is a complete impossibility.

A bird that can hover in place? A tongue that is so long it wraps around its brain? It has to constantly eat… or it will die of starvation? And it is so small you could cup it in your hand? Fantasy! Who do you think you are! Baron Munchhausen?

The bird is just properly going through his checklist before and during takeoff.

Let’s hope he doesn’t hit a bird on takeoff.

A small confession. I used to do some thing similar, In my head I would do a sport announcer calling my deliver of the mail like a sports event. “Look at his stride, a pivot, IT’S IN THE BOX, IT”S IN THE BOX! Don’t tell anybody.

Unfortunately, the hawk above him has already gone through his and has begun his dive for his lunch.

Just a show-off bird, they all do it but keep it to themselves.

It’s good to have an imagination, to make routine daily activities less boring.

Do jet planes actually start one engine at a time?

I’m so old I remember flying cross-Atlantic in propeller planes. I’d be fascinated, watching them start up one prop at a time, first slowly spinning then revving up to full power.

V-1 isn’t rotation speed. It’s decision speed (beyond V-1, it’s dangerous to abort takeoff). V2is basically minimum takeoff speed.
