If this is in reference to the removal of Robert E. Lee’s statue in Virginia, I say:
Hurrah! And God save the Republic and the Union!
That racist traitor deserves none of the excessive praise and reverence he has received. Being an above-average tactician does not excuse his moral failings.
While not whining about “political correctness” this time, Gorrell isn’t saying anything with this, it only points out that the statue of Robert E. Lee will CHANGE from being there to not being there.
Not the first time Gorrell has done an empty statue base:
Watch this site tomorrow for the non-political cartoon for D-Day. Followed later on June 14th for another possible non-political cartoon for Flag Day but that’s Donnie Birthday so we can’t be sure. Maybe it will be a cartoon of the Chosen One carrying a cross and wearing a crown of thorns and saying, “I’ve been treated worse than Jesus”.
Whether or not you want a particular change, change is inevitable. This particular change: Not small. Of course it’s too little, too late, but it’s at least in a good direction.
There’s a monument in Garfield Park (Indianapolis) dedicated to Confederate POW’s who were interned and died (at a different location) during the Civil War. It was built during the height of Klan influence in the region in the 1920s. There were thousands of those prisoners and many died from malnutrition and disease while bottled up in the local POW camps. Likewise, many Union POW’s died under similar villainous conditions in the South at Andersonville and other places. Anyway, the Mayor has decreed that this structure will be dismantled and either stored, I suppose, or perhaps moved elsewhere. In a way this seems uncalled for. After all, these were mostly, if not all, ordinary soldiers not the likes of Forrest, Jackson, Lee, Bragg, or Andersonville’s degraded commander, Henry Wirz.
MORAL FAILINGS?!? Seriously??? Traitor? U.S. Grant did NOT share your view. Racist? No. After the war when General Lee was worshiping at his church on Sunday and they were serving communion…a black man came forward to knell and receive the bread and the cup. Well, the whole church went into shock….now what? The situation was defused when a gray haired gentleman then came forward to kneel for communion right next to the black man. THEN the congregation knew it was okay. Yes, that gentleman was Robert E. Lee. If Lee was a racist then so was Lincoln….he felt all the “N’s” were inferior and his solution was to ship them all back to Africa. Lee was an American patriot and hero…maybe next time do some research first!

If they placed a statue of Trump on that platform then Trumpers would cheer and jeer and forget all about Lee and their previous anger…

A photo with some text on it is just a meme.

Everything “Confederacy” should actually be in museums. Jeff Davis was the only president who did as much for the union as Bonespurs.

Don`t warry. Soon nobody will have change in theirs pockets. Every war in history has started with destruction of the monuments, than later of people.
