I just looked at Kinkade’s art. Let’s see, say something nice, say something nice….. Um, he uses lots of pastel colors and seems to have cornered the $12.99 art market. I think i saw his “art” on a tv commercial recently.

T.K. is a “hack” artist. No love lost or ever found for his “work” here.

But he’s supposed to be such a wonderful Christian. I guess that’s true, if being a good Christian means being a hypocrite.

Picasso was a jerk. Dali was a jerk. It makes no difference to the merit of the work they did. I’m sure it’s possible to be a nice guy and create great art as well, but similarly their niceness is irrelevant when considering their works.

Perhaps creative types are over-represented in the “difficult personality” category, but artistic drive and achievement really are fueled by living very close to your passionate emotions.

Again, Van Gogh was a troubled, disturbed, unhappy wreck, and I do not envy him the life he lived. But “Starry Night” alone is worth vastly more than every canvas Kinkade ever prettied-up put together (and I’m not talking about monetary value).

Kinkaid paints stuff that’s nostalgic and glowy.. for “oooh sparkles” people impressed by memories of things that never were. However his skill as an artist is mediocre at best. I watched a class run by some of his group on how to paint like him. Bleaargh!!

His slick sales skills on the other hand are amazing. So we are stuck with a lot of sparkly junk art.

Demanding, overbearing artistic types are no longer jerks.

    They’re “divas”.

This was posted referring to a strip that mentioned grilled cheese. I had stated that I dipped mine in ketchup and then your post was in response.

I am a big fan of Mr. Scott’s westerns. Please explain to me what you meant by that reference.

It’s a line from the movie “Blazing Saddles”. Sheriff Bart was trying to convince the townspeople to give him 24 hours to come up with a plan to save the town. When they refused, he said the line. I was connecting Gordie Howe and Randolph Scott as old-time icons.

(I’m a big fan of Randolph Scott westerns myself ; )

Dragon, I think you’ve got to be successful to graduate from “jerk” to “diva”, in the same sense that you have to be rich to graduate from “crazy” to “eccentric”.

I also think you have to be female, but I don’t know what the masculine equivalent would be. “Divo?” Are we not men? (We must be men!)

Moot point now. They’re both dead! Both had short lives. TK only made it to 54yo. But that is more than Van Gogh’s 37 years.
