You forgot the middleman markups, refinery costs, transportation, station owner’s operation costs, various taxes, and overhead. Gas will never be free, and trying that will get you arrested. The only way I can see it being given away is if the gas station owner is paid at a rate to cover his entire operations to do so at a profit to him.
The price at the pump has little to do with the cost of a barrel of crude.. Supply.. and what the market will bear.. is what establishes the price… and wages.
Since prices are so low, how about a Federal tax per gallon to help pay for the consequences of the shut down? Doesn’t need to be a lot, but it might help a bit.
