It works, if you don’t want to be one of those constantly negative people that no one wants to be around.

Oh, the days of youth where that was all possible.. Such a simple mind that grows to become so much more. That happens to us all, we go through youth thinking the best but as we grow, we learn the impossibilities of such a simple happiness.

Calvin’s strategy reminds me of Charlie Sheen’s–claim victory and shut down all perception.

Avoidance of things that ‘bug’ us, has gotten us right where we are. Give up your power to those in power and look what happens. As long as Americans have a roof over their head, booze to consume, sports scores to keep up on, malls to shop at etc., etc., than life is good.

    Stevie Wonder’s song:

“Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing”

“Everybody’s got a thing But some don’t know how to handle it Always reachin’ out in vain Accepting the things not worth having but

Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing, mama Cause I’ll be standing on the side When you check it out

They say your style of life’s a drag And that you must go other places But just don’t you feel too bad When you get fooled by smiling faces but

Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing, mama Cause I’ll be standing on the side When you check it out…Yeah When you get it off…your trip Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing…Yeah Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing…Yeah

Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing, mama Cause I’ll be standing on the side When you check it out… When you get it off…your trip

Everybody needs a change A chance to check out the new But you’re the only one to see The changes you take yourself through

Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing, pretty mama Cause I’ll be standing in the wings When you check it out

Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing”

I understood Puddleglum’s reference completely, and in her defense she is most welcome on my behalf to include them in her musings about Calvin, et.al. They are always quite interesting, IMHO, and in the case of this present cartoon, right on target….

old hippy phrase- ” don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff”

Isn’t that, “Don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things.”

Glad to hear from Puddleglum again.

God thought of it first: ….whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8

It’s interesting that Calvin’s response is both a non-sequitur and a fitting response to Hobbes’ question.
