If this truly is the good side of Calvin, that means that there is a part of him that really does like Suzie. THAT’s what’s freaking normal Calvin out.
It’s completely normal for boys to display their crushes by playing pranks on them. Pulling ponytails is the most common first step in love! Don’t push the envelope, though, Calvin! Luvya.
I don’t know about that – I read the two lines without feeling any of the ill effects suffered by Arthur and Ford when the Vogon captain tortured them with his tortured verse …
Panel 3 is a perfect example of why Sparky Schulz said Calvin and Hobbes was the best comic strip going at the time - it’s just plain drawn funny. Sounds obvious, but so many strips just aren’t.
What’s atrocious about the poetry? The fact that it rhymes, the fact it expresses some real sentiment, or merely the fact that it mixes historical forms of English? :))
No accounting for some people’s tastes, I guess. But c’mon, he’s only six. For his age that’s not half bad at all.
Love the differences between the two Calvin’s haircuts. Hobbes, ever helpful, of course, unlocks his verbal claws and zaps out a few zingers. Construction paper may lead to destruction of something else down the road here…
Whatever happened to those dime store “hate you” Valentines, on thin colored paper, with an appropriate selection of “verses” … like, for example:
“Your hair is all greasey,
you look like a floosey.
Whenever I see you,
I get really woozie.” “Unsigned”
Calvin would like to deliver one like that to Susie to counter what Good Calvin is making.

If good Calvin follows through, bad Calvin will be the youngest “person” to set the record of having the highest blood pressure.

Doesn’t Calvin realize this could eventually drive Susie absolutely berserk? Possibly worse than anything else he’s ever done to her.

But in the meantime he’ll have to forfeit his membership in G.R.O.S.S., hence the angst.
