Like Hemingway said, “Voy a comerme esta cebolla como una manzana. Lo entiendes?”

Colm seems to have healed nicely. Or is he still wearing fake eyebrows?

If as a kid I had seen someone eat an onion like this I would have walked away slowly, without making sudden movements and fearing for my life.

Eating an onion as though it were an apple? How could anyone do that? Onions are only tolerable if used sparingly as a seasoning and well-blended with other ingredients. I’ve seen many sandwiches and cheeseburgers ruined by the addition of raw onions.

Lottie, Lottie, Lottie. If you only knew that “the stink of girls on him” would actually be a badge of courage, as the boys secretly wish they knew how to talk to girls (starting about this age)

Which is worse, having the stink of girls on you or having the stink of onion on your breath?

It’s interesting how Lottie views human society (or at least the grammar school subset thereof) in strictly animalistic terms. “Nature, red in tooth and claw.”
